A Puffin never walks alone
As I am drafting the webpage and brochure for the Lofoten trip in September, I am cherishing some reflections I wish to share. You learn it fast enough when you are attempting any kind of business: your network of friends is the secret to success. Here is a look behind the scenes on how the consultation process works at Puffins:
Reflection number 1: The positive answers of social media:
Lately it is maligned because of privacy issues, which are justly reason for concern and call for smart solutions and protective legislation. But I have learned to use Facebook as a powerful instrument that connects. I consider it as every type of media. It is abused by those with bad intentions and brings good stuff for those who stick to its essential aim. I am not too shy to ask my Facebook friends for help when I need it. And more than often, it brings solutions from where I least expect them. Friends that share what your business has to offer, friends that immediately answer specific questions from IT to helping hands or just friends that encourage you to go on, by showing their loving support. It goes without saying, that Facebook is also still a gateway to new customers, despite all the talk of it being “passé”. As you know or learn soon enough, I love to get into dialogue with the guests of Puffins by chatting in real life on the phone, at our beautiful office or out at some event, but the first contact is all too often made by spreading word on social media channels.
Reflection number 2: The virtual meeting room that is Whatsapp:
On a daily basis, there are so many decisions to be made, it could make your head spin. From choosing the right graphic design when making your first flyer (not to mention how many copies to order in the first print edition) to matters of strategic importance. If I send out some thorny issue to the inner circle on whatsapp, within minutes I have a scala of opinions which ease the decision making process a lot! Or sometimes complicate it. ;-)
Reflection number 3: how the best ideas sprout at dinner tables and bar counters:
There is no escaping. No matter how much work needs to be done, one person can only do as much and needs to pause every so often. Luckily I have such good friends to invite me out once in a while. And oddly enough, while trying my best no to talk about work, these good friends of mine sparkle ideas by listening, and by encouraging me to look at matters from their refreshing perspective. The wildest dream trips are born by talking to friends who ignite the light. And off course, nothing beats a good laugh together with your besties !
